The Oakland Press reported on May 1st that at a federal court hearing, a judge will consider a request to make further changes at the Oakland County Jail due to COVID-19 as well as possible dismissing a class action lawsuit against the county officials. The original lawsuit alleged unsanitary conditions at the county jail are putting inmates at unnecessary risk of COVID-19, and demands immediate release of all inmates over 50 years old as well as those with underlying health issues that put them at greater risk if they contract the virus.
The Oakland Press also reported that the judge is also considering requiring additional changes at the county jail to reduce the risk of the spread of the virus and to help protect inmates and staff.
